Roxbury History

Roxbury Road Church of Christ was first formed in 1952. Founding members first met in a rented room in a local YMCA building in Janesville, Wisconsin. In 1954, the church purchased another building in downtown Janesville, and that site remained it’s home until 1963. At that time the church relocated into a newly constructed building on Roxbury Road in Janesville. The Roxbury Road site has experienced expansion through a major auditorium addition in 1986, and through the addition of a multi-purpose room in 1995. Further growth was seen through the remodeling of the former church parsonage into a new church office complex in 2001.

We are a part of a fellowship known as "Christian Churches/ Churches of Christ." Historically, we grew out of what's been called the "Restoration Movement" - originally devoted to spreading the gospel and uniting the church.

Our Core Beliefs

We believe in an external God who has always existed as father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1-2, John 1:1,14, Titus 3:4-7)

We believe in Jesus the Christ as Savior and Lord, having died for our sins according to the scriptures, was buried and raised on the 3rd day according to the scriptures. (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, 1 Corinthians 15:3-7)

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. (Psalm 119; 2 Timothy 3:14-17)

We believe that all humans are created in the image of God, but sin has separated us from our perfect Creator. (Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; 6:23)

We believe that God desires a personal relationship with us. (Luke 15; 1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9)

We believe that salvation is found only in Jesus Christ. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 4:12)

We believe that salvation is a free gift received by personal faith and repentance which is confessed in Christian baptism. (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-5, 23)

We believe that God, through His Spirit, transforms the people He saves as they follow Him 24/7. (Luke 9:23; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18)

We believe in the churchthe Family of God and light to the world. (Ephesians 2:19; 4:4-6; 5:8-10; 1 Peter 2:4, 9)

We believe that every Christian is a minister; that is, a servant of Christ. (Romans 12:1-8; 1 Corinthians 12:12-31; Ephesians 4:11-13; 1 Peter 4:8-11)

We believe that Jesus will return and make all things new. (Acts 1:11; 2 Peter 3: 8-14; Revelation 21:1-5)

"“Helping people”"… This is God’s work, but it is our incredible opportunity to join Him in what He is doing. God provides the ability, we simply provide the availability.

"“Follow Christ”…" Being a follower of Christ is not about being good or going to church… it is about Jesus! (John 14:6). We cannot make people followers of Christ but we can confidently, clearly, relationally and relevantly share the truth and trust God to draw people to himself (John 12:32).

"“24/7"”… This is a way of saying that following Christ isn’t a part-time pursuit or a compartment of one’s life; it is one’s life. Jesus is our goal, not programs, personalities, or religion. (Luke 9:23)

"“To change our world”…" Jesus taught us to pray, “your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Mathew 6:10) Jesus is the only answer to truly “changing” our world and it begins in “our” world (our sphere of influence)… individual lives, families, communities, country, and world.

* We are committed to being a missional church.

* We must reach beyond our walls to make disciples all nations.

* We must equip and set free the people of God in the power of the Spirit of God to accomplish the mission of God for the glory of God.

FAMILY

* We are committed to being a family church.

* As followers of Christ, we are a part of Gods family of faith, therefore we are committed to living like family.

* God ordained the family and the home to be a discipleship center.

Marriage

E5 MARRIAGE MINISTRY

In Ephesians chapter 5, the Apostle Paul uses the analogy of the marriage relationship to illustrate the relationship or “marriage” between Christ and His people. It is a sacrificial love relationship… as is a marriage!

We believe that marriage is the foundation of the family and therefore is essential in “building strong families.” Our strategy is to focus on 3 primary areas:

• PREPARE: We have implemented pre-marriage mentoring. No couple will be married in this church without receiving a solid biblical foundational start.

• ENRICH: This past year we held a “Love and Respect” Conference. This is an excellent conference (and book) based on Ephesians 5.

• REPAIR: We have trained mentors wanting to help repair struggling marriages and help those who have gone through divorce and are seeking healing.

The NextGen ministry oversees and includes all ministries from diapers to diplomas. Our hope and desire is to not only to minister to our children in a way that assures that all of our ministries are aligned and heading toward the same end result. While it is vitally important to have quality programs at church… we believe it is even more important that kids are also taught in the home and that faith is modeled for them as a part of everyday life.Therefore, our mission is to: "“Partner with parents from diaper to diplomas to help the next generation become 24/7 followers of Christ to change our world.”"To help us fulfill this mission, we developed the "Home Field Advantage" strategy.

We Believe:

* Nothing is more important than someones relationship with God.

* No one has more potential to influence a childs relationship with God than a parent.

* No one has more potential to influence the parent than the church.

* The churchs potential to influence a child dramatically increases when it partners with a parent.

* The parents potential to influence a child dramatically increases when that parent partners with the church.

We believe that kids deserve our best effort, and that they can begin to discover the God who made them. Thats why we have KidStuf, an awesome place that kids just love!! They get to worship God, and begin to experience Him, at an age appropriate level. KidStuf is a secure environment, with workers who have all been screened with background checks, and trained to just love and serve every kid who shows up.

Roxbury Awana is a safe place for youth and families to find a fun and educational connection to Jesus Christ, that they may not find in the world. A place for them to build friendships and create new ones with their peers. A place for leaders, families and clubbers alike to find truth in Gods word. Do your best to present yourself to God as one A pproved, a W orkman who need ( A re) N ot be A shamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15.

Student Ministry
Hey there! I'm Denise Grindle, Family Ministries Assistant and Director of Roxbury Student Ministries. We believe that the home, not the church and its programs, is the primary discipleship tool for students of all ages. Our student ministries exist to partner with parents to bring students into a relationship with Christ and to help them grow in their relationship with Christ and each other. We strive to get rid of surface conversation with discussion groups and replace superficial relationships with genuine friendships, all while digging deeper into God’s Words. I hope you'll look around here and find a way to get connected with us! The purpose of Roxbury Student Ministries “RSM” is to partner with Parents to raise up a generation of passionate 24/7 life-long Christ followers. OUR CORE COMMITMENTS... GraceGrace is one of the foundations of our faith. God has shown His grace upon us by sending His Son Jesus Christ to die for us. We desire to show grace to any student who walks into our church no matter where they are coming from. Forgiveness is grace in action and we want to strive to live in unity, working as one body to glorify our father in Heaven. RSM views the relationship with parents as a partnership where we work together to accomplish the task of training our young people of this generation. Mentoring relationships with leaders and with theirs peers are a vital part of parenting with the home. If the thought of studying the Bible has left you feeling guilty, confused or completely lost, this course will help you get started on your own discovery.

Thursday Nights at 7:00-8:15 p.m.

We will begin where you are (even if thats near zero) and give you practical help and practice in studying the Bible on your own or in a group. Come with your questions and an expectation to learn how to study and understand God's Word in order to hear His voice!

Google Maps, Pandora, Skype, GPS, Facebook. They say a cell phone gets better with every App. What if there was a suite of Apps for an upgraded version of YOU? Sounds too mechanical and impersonal, not to mention magical. And it is. But app is short for application and God is all about that! His Apps are basic but effective. Forget the bells and whistles. Pray, Read, Give And then the next day, apply it again. The Bible says that we experience blessing (change, growth, fruit), not by merely hearing , but in the doing (James 1:25)... Applying what we know day in and day out. And when we fail, to get back at it. We begin the year with the words, Get the App! Apply the basics! Proverbs 3: 5-10 highlights them:Pray5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.Read (& obey)7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.Give9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.What might happen if we each applied ourselves to these basics with the same commitment/enthusiasm we apply to a cherished hobby or relationship? After all, these arent things a Christian adds to his/her life; they simply describe what a Christian is. A Christian speaks to the Lord (prays), listens and obeys what he hears (reads) and shares with others the blessings received (gives). Its simply essential to the relationship.
