Membership
Joining Roxbury
What specifically must a person do to become a member of the Roxbury Road Church of Christ?
A person must have received Jesus Christ as described in the New Testament.
That is, any person putting faith in Jesus Christ as their personal
Lord and
Savior, who demonstrates evidence of repentance by publicly stating
his
conviction that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and who is immersed
(baptized) into Christ, may become a member of this congregation.
A person must have experienced a new life through Jesus Christ. If you have any questions or you don’t know where you stand in your relationship to God, then we suggest that you make an arrangement with a pastor to explore what the Bible says on this topic.
If you have taken this first step already, the next step is to make
a public
commitment that you, too, want to function as a “body” member
with this church. This may be done during the closing song at any of
the Sunday
morning services.
Contact church staff once you are ready to accept the joys and challenges
of membership in the Body of Christ with the Roxbury Road Church of
Christ.
Roxbury Expectations
The difference between one who attends and a member can be summed up in one word: commitment A true member is a disciple who is committed to a local church and who has made a covenant with Christ in a local church body.
We only expect from our church members what scripture expects of all disciples of Christ.
1. To Strive towards Unity
By acting in love towards other members
By refusing to gossip
By committing to love (read 1 John)
By upholding the leadership or the church
Romans 15:5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus.
2. To Share the Responsibility
By praying for growth
By inviting the unchurched and unbelievers to attend
By welcoming those who attend
Faithful attendance
We all have a responsibility towards growth and doing our part
Romans 15:7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
3. To Serve in Ministry
Discovering your spiritual gifts
Equipping to serve – and then serve
By continue to develop a servants heart
Living and growing as we become more like Christ (our goal)
By faithful giving and tithing
1 Peter 4:10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms
